DALL’IBERNAZIONE DEI GHIACCI CANADESI RITORNA ALLA LUCE SOLAR AQUA

 

Brand di orologi creato all’inizio del ‘900 da Timothy Eaton, magnate dell’industria retail dell’America Settentrionale, Solar Aqua, dopo aver servito con modelli di alta precisione e affidabilità le forze armate reali canadesi, cadde in un misterioso letargo che sembrava senza ritorno, almeno fino ad oggi.
U-BOAT Group scongela i ghiacci che hanno tenuto il marchio ibernato per decenni e lo riporta alla luce facendolo entrare tra i brand di orologi della holding, posizionandolo al fianco degli ormai celebri U-BOAT e L. Kendall.
Era infatti la fine dell’800 quando, agli arbori di un impero nei grandi magazzini, il sig. Eaton decise di sviluppare e produrre, sotto il suo marchio omonimo prima e il marchio Solar Aqua dopo qualche anno, una serie di orologi di eccellenza dal cuore svizzero ma principalmente per il mercato nordamericano.
Guadagnata piena reputazione durante il secondo conflitto mondiale, il brand fece perdere con un alone di mistero le sue tracce e in maniera definitiva con la chiusura della catena di grandi magazzini Eaton’s nel 1999.
Oggi i Solar Aqua rivedono la luce nella loro versione 2.0 e si affacciano quindi sul mercato con tre modelli, declinati in vari colori e materiali, che celebrano lo storico brand, rivisitandone in chiave moderna le caratteristiche tecniche che lo resero celebre, senza dimenticare il puro heritage canadese e la precisione ingegneristica svizzera.
Si parte con il modello Mishipeshu, ispirato alla creatura mitologica marina a forma di drago che leggendariamente vive nelle profondità dei Great Lakes in U.S.A e Canada e ne tutela il naturale ecosistema; un orologio diver con cassa in acciaio 316L a diametro 44mm disponibile anche nella versione PVD Black.
L’orologio può raggiungere i fondali del più profondo dei laghi, il Superior Lake, che è di 406 metri essendo testato per superarne ampiamente il limite, dicitura che campeggia sotto lo storico logo a forma di sole sul quadrante (>406).

Quest’ultimo è disponibile, sotto il vetro zaffiro, in tre colorazioni dal nero, al verde e al blu, caratterizzato da indici e sfere in superluminova e circondato dalla ghiera girevole, immancabile per un pro-diver, in acciaio e ceramica anch’essa nelle suddette nuance, creando diversi abbinamenti di stile anche con i cinturini in acciaio mesh e in gomma per un totale di 14 versioni tra cassa acciaio e in PVD nero.
Un fondello a vista consente di intravedere il movimento automatico svizzero disegnato per Solar Aqua e la cassa da 44 mm vanta una caratteristica corona a vite oltre ad una valvola per il rilascio graduale dell’elio.
Mishipeshu lascia al passo ad un altro modello diver dalle prestazioni ancora più specifiche per le immersioni professionali, il Deep Bay, testato per poter toccare il fondo a 2156 metri della famosa Baffin Bay, tra la costa occidentale della Groenlandia e l’isola di Baffin nel Circolo Polare Artico come esplicitato sul quadrante (< 2156).
Orologio con cassa in acciaio spazzolato da 45 mm di diametro vanta una ghiera unidirezionale in acciaio con inserti in ceramica, vetro zaffiro e due tipologie di quadranti: uno nero e uno di colore blu nella metà superiore che sfuma in nero nella parte inferiore; entrambi caratterizzati da indici e sfere in superluminova. Con un fondello chiuso a vite per assicurarne elevata resistenza alla pressione dell’acqua, Deep Bay è caratterizzato anch’esso da una valvola per il rilascio dell’elio e completano il design robusto e marcato i bracciali in acciaio e i cinturini in gomma entrambi in dotazione al segnatempo.
Dalle profondità dei laghi si passa alle vette più alte dell’America Settentrionale con l’ultimo modello, il Primatist, che completa la proposta dei nuovi Solar Aqua, un orologio stile aviatore con cassa da 42 mm nelle versioni acciaio e PVD Black che vanta comunque un fondello a vista e una impermeabilità a 100mt. Diverse colorazioni di quadrante dal blu, al verde, al nero rispettivamente con numeri arabi o indici caratterizzano una scelta ampia che si concretizza in un totale di 12 modelli disponibili sia con cinturino in pelle che in maglia di acciaio mesh.
Un brand di orologi che cessa di essere leggenda per diventare nuovamente realtà, che racconta di una storia e una tradizione che non poteva essere dimenticata e che merita di essere raccontata con uno sguardo moderno e rivolto verso il futuro, bentornato Solar Aqua!

THE BRAND
Solar Aqua is a brand of watches created by Timothy Eaton, who founded the T. Eaton Company Ltd. in 1869. The T. Eaton Company Limited, commonly known as Eaton’s, was a Canadian department store chain that was once Canada’s largest. Eaton went to the United Kingdom and Europe himself and bought directly from suppliers, also started to produce watches with few high-end manufactureres.
EATON’S
Eaton used the best watch movements on the market, obtaining an excellent reputation with his watches marketed under the brand Solar Aqua, used by aviators and pilots, marines, soldiers of the army, especially during the Second World War.

MISHIPESHU

Mishipeshu is the most important legendary being of the Great Lakes, located across United States of America and Canada.This wonderful creature, also named Underwater Panther or Great Lynx, lives in the deepest parts of lakes and rivers and it has the role of preventing and protecting the over-exhaustion of natural resources. Our creation is called Mishipeshu, in honor of this mythological creature that lives in the depths of Lake Superior at 406 meters, depths that our Solar Aqua is able to reach and overcome.

PRIMATIST

The Primatist model is inspired to the Solar Aqua Prima models used during the Second World War. It has the ideal characteristics for the army, aviation, but also the essential for expeditions to the Arctic circle. In fact, the main features are waterproof up to 100 meters, illuminated, light weight, small dimensions. Size and design consent to be weared also during an elegant dinner.
