Created as a limited edition of 888 pieces, this adventurous diver’s watch is further evidence of MIDO’s expertise: the Swiss watch brand has been a pioneer in water-resistance since 1930, with the introduction of its historic Aquadura system. The new Ocean Star 200C Carbon is an extreme sports watch, designed to withstand pressures of up to 200 metres. In a first for MIDO, the case band is made from carbon fibre composite, as is the dial. Its dark, matte colours are paired with robust stainless steel, a shiny black technical ceramic rotating bezel and two black interchangeable straps, one fabric and the other rubber. Its excellent round-the-clock readability is enhanced by contrasting touches of white Super-LumiNova® and orange lacquer – MIDO’s iconic colour. The heart of this exceptional watch beats to the rhythm of its Caliber 80 chronometer with silicon balance spring, offering the ultimate in precision at great depths.
Myriad of possibilities
The face of the Ocean Star 200C Carbon Limited Edition is even sportier, shaped in the grey and anthracite tones of the carbon fibre composite. On this background, there is a triangle at 12 o’clock and its generous round indexes are decorated with pure white Super-LumiNova® for perfect readability. On the high-tech ceramic rotating bezel, a luminescent white dot marks the start of the graduation – characteristic of a watch designed to measure diving times. The first 15 minutes are then marked in orange, echoing the minute hand. Both practical and discreet, the day and date are displayed in an aperture with a black background, next to the round index at 3 o’clock. This breathtaking dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides.
The case band on the Ocean Star 200C Carbon offers the lightness and strength of its carbon fibre composite, on a robust stainless-steel base. The screw-on case back guarantees water resistance up to 200 m (20 bar/660 ft), while the engraved starfish symbolises MIDO’s historic expertise in this field. This exceptional model comes with two easily interchangeable straps: one strap in black rubber with a diver’s extension, and the other strap in black synthetic fabric with orange stitching. Backed by an exceptional 5-year guarantee, this limited edition comes in a bespoke watch box.
COSC-certified precision
The formidable Caliber 80 on the Ocean Star 200C Carbon has passed the COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) tests. This timepiece offers excellent precision and reliability thanks to its impressive power reserve of up to 80 hours, as well as the advantages offered by its silicon balance spring, which is as highly shock-resistant as it is non-magnetic.
