Docking exclusively in Italy
The Ocean Star GMT sets sail for the Mediterranean. To mark this occasion, MIDO is dressing it in green and black in a limited edition exclusively for Italy. With its cutting-edge materials and performance, this elegant sports piece revives the spirit of the divers of the sixties. Chic and powerful, accentuated by its “shark teeth” indexes, it is ready to cruise the globe!
Packed with vintage touches, high quality materials and mechanical excellence: the Ocean Star GMT revives MIDO’s rich history. The Swiss watchmaker was already making waves in water-resistance as far back as the 1930s. The origins of the Ocean Star date back to 1944. For this Ocean Star GMT, limited to 250 pieces exclusively for Italy, MIDO plays with fresh contrasts: black for the dial, with a slim Italian flag underlining the Ocean Star name, and a vibrant green for the aluminium bidirectional rotating bezel. The second time zone can be read very easily either on the silver-coloured flange, thanks to the red hand – or directly on the bezel. The 40.5 mm diameter of the stainless steel case recalls the modest dimensions of this era, as does the domed glass box type sapphire crystal, and its multi-link bracelet in satin-finished and polished steel. With even the smallest details designed for performance and durability, the Ocean Star GMT offers remarkable water-resistance of up to 200 metres (20 bar / 660 ft) and remains reliable no matter the test. Its Caliber 80, equipped with a high tech Nivachron™ balance spring, benefits from a power reserve of up to 80 hours. Engraved with a starfish and the inscription “One of 250”, the screw-on case back boasts exceptional character and history.
Irresistible…
A fresh breeze is blowing across the Ocean Star GMT! Its polished fluted bezel, with a vibrant green aluminium ring, accentuates its deep black dial. Emerging from this abyss are the highly original indexes for the even-numbered hours, shaped like shark teeth – earning this version of the Ocean Star the nickname “Shark”. Legibility is optimal: diamond-cut hands indicate the hours and minutes, and a varnished green hand points to the hour in the second time zone. This second time zone can be set with the crown to be displayed on the silver-coloured flange, or, very quickly, by simply rotating the bezel. This means there is an option to display three different times. At night, white Super-LumiNova® ensures the hands and indexes remain visible. Touches of silver add brilliance to this dial. The date appears, discreet yet practical, in white in a black window at 3 o’clock. In a nod to the plexiglas crystals of this era, a glass box sapphire crystal protects the face of this fascinating shark.
The Ocean Star GMT is forged from robust stainless steel, with subtle contrasts between the polished and satin-finished surfaces on its case. MIDO has paired it with two easily interchangeable bracelets: a black Nato style strap with a green centre line, and a multi-link bracelet in satin-finished and polished steel.
… and formidable!
Elegant and reliable in equal measure, the performance offered by the Ocean Star GMT makes it an indispensable tool for travellers. Its screw-down crown and screw-on case back further improve its resistance to the elements. Its automatic mechanical movement – the Caliber 80 – marks the time, unwavering, thanks to its exceptional power reserve of up to 80 hours and its remarkable resistance to the effects of magnetism, provided by an innovative Nivachron™ balance spring.
MIDO dedicates a chic yet formidable limited edition exclusively to Italy: the spirited Ocean Star GMT in green and black.
